Startup Founders without Borders: How Diaspora-Led Communities are shaping the Future of Global Innovation
Thursday October 23, 2025 17:45 - 18:15 CEST Workshop Box 2

What if your greatest advantage as a startup founder... was being from somewhere else?
Startup founders in emerging countries often face deep systemic challenges: fragile startup ecosystems, limited access to risk capital, unstable institutions and business environment, outdated infrastructure, among others. But many also have access to a powerful, underleveraged asset: their diaspora.
India leads the way with over 18 million Indians abroad, including Indians in leadership positions in some of the world’s top tech companies like Google and Microsoft. Mexico comes second, with over 12 million Mexicans abroad. Unfortunately, most diasporas are disconnected, unknown, and lack a shared identity and mission.
MEXpreneurs, a platform for Mexican tech startup founders launched in 2024 in Germany by Mexican-German Ecosystem Builder, Sergio G. Chavez, shows what’s possible when founders turn their national identity, expertise, and networks into a source of innovation, talent, capital, and community.
In this workshop, Sergio will share the playbook behind MEXpreneurs: how a small group of Mexican startup founders located in Mexico and abroad built a scalable, founder-first platform that fuels startups, strengthens economic ties between home and host countries, and unlocks social mobility.
You’ll explore practical insights, frameworks, and strategies to help you build a similar platform for your country, region, or diaspora.
Whether you’re a founder with a migration background looking to scale beyond borders, an investor backing international teams, or an ecosystem builder connecting global talent, this workshop will help you turn cultural identity into a strategic advantage, and build the startup community you wish had existed when you began.
